Introduction and Strategy

The PGA Tour heads to my homeland as golfers tee it up at Nine Bridges Golf Club on Jeju Island, South Korea for the CJ Cup. This is a brand new event being played on a course few Tour golfers have ever seen. Luckily there is no cut in this field of 78 golfers so everyone should see four rounds of play. There are close to 20 Korean golfers in the field and it is possible that some of them have course knowledge here at Nine Bridges. Se-Ri Pak won an LPGA event here in the past and though there are no male Korean golfers of her class in the field I still expect a couple to surprise. Trying to find out which ones it will be is a difficult task due to lack of information about some of these golfers. Some Koreans in the field that I will be paying attention to are Sung Kang, who was born and raised on the island of Jeju and Seung-Yul Noh. Young-Han Song and KT Kim are some other lesser known Korean golfers who could be in the mix as they have both played well recently on the Japan Tour. I also fancy Benny An a bit as he played well last week after a rough stretch and could possibly be one of the three most talented Korean golfers in the field. The unfamiliarity with the course could be exacerbated by the weather on Jeju Island. During the summer months this part of South Korea is extremely hot and rainy but in October there isn’t too much rain and the big weather worry for golfers this week will be the wind. The forecast calls for winds between 15 and 25 mph for the whole tournament which should make scoring much more difficult especially when compared to what we saw in Malaysia last week. There probably won’t be preferred lies and with the wind in play, I would guess the winning score will be in the low to mid teens.

That’s it for this week. Sorry for the shorter write up but the delay in DK pricing put me on a time crunch. We’ll be back to normal next week. For more PGA DFS knowledge check out my Podcast.
